Zaxbys is planning to open six restaurants across New Jersey, the company said in a news release. The first two locations were expected to open in the summer of 2025.
GSP Group will operate all six Zaxbys in the state.
"We started looking into Zaxbys about a year ago," GSP Group co-owner Premanand Gupta said. "We have always been interested in the growing chicken market, and Zaxbys stood out with its exceptional product and strong business model. We're confident that it will quickly become a local favorite."
Gupta, a longtime New Jersey resident, and GSP Group also run other fast-food franchises like Dunkin' and Subway.
"We are eager to see Zaxbys expand into New Jersey with such experienced and passionate owners," said Zaxbys chief development officer Mike Mettler. "The GSP Group's strong operational background and commitment to excellence make them the ideal partners to grow our brand in this new market."
A company spokesperson declined to give exact locations for the planned restaurants but did say the first Zaxbys will be in South Jersey and north of Philadelphia. Zaxbys is also still working on selecting sites for other restaurants.
The Zaxbys menu features traditional and boneless wing meals, accompanied by french fries, Texas toast, and a beverage. Customers can also order meals with chicken fingers, sandwiches, and salads.
Zaxbys also offers its secret recipe Zax Sauce, a Spicy Zax Sauce, and Tongue Torch Sauce, which includes aged peppers, garlic, and mustard seeds.
YouTube video creator MrBeast has also partnered with Zaxbys for a special meal. The "MrBeast Box" has chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, fried white cheddar bites, Texas toast, a drink, and a chocolate bar from the YouTuber's Feastables brand in a collectible box.
Zaxbys was founded in Statesboro, Georgia, in 1990, and has 972 locations as of Tuesday, Oct. 8, according to data company ScrapeHero. It has expanded beyond its southeast footprint to states like Indiana, Utah, and Virginia.
The closest Zaxbys restaurant to New Jersey is in Chantilly, VA, but the company has also announced plans for three restaurants on Maryland's eastern shore.
